I am currently looking at buying a 1978 F150 with a 351M. My question is how hard would it be to swap the 351M for a 460 with a C6 Tranny? please give me what ever advice you can give me if you know anything about this or have done it before.
What trans does the 351m have? It should bolt up to a 460. You'll have to look at getting a larger rad possibly, but other than that everything should bolt up. Not a difficult job if you have an engine hoist, digital camera and a little time/patience. Make sure to take lots of pictures before you begin to dismantle, and a couple friends to help out never hurts.
I am trying to get in contact with the owner to find out what trans is in it. Larger Rad? i was thinking it might actually need a different engine mounting assembly, just because where going from small block to big block and do you think the bell housing on the 460 would fit, one of my buddies questioned it.
does it have an auto now or 4 spd. if auto no reason to change trans. engine will bolt up. 2wd im guessing? otherwise find auto w transfer case attached. good luck. if 4 spd front section of rear driveshaft will need to be changed. different length and yokes. motor towers will also need to be changed. mounts are completely different. accessories should work but will need brackets and pulleys for 460. not interchangeable
would be easier than swapping in c6. bellhousing is same bolt pattern. some people say bellhousing is not deep enough by up to 3/8 inch, requiring a homemade spacer. some people say is fine as is. i dont personally know the problem would be. find 2wd 460 motor towers (should bolt up to frame) or buy conversion mounts. if using internally balanced 460 (before 77), use 360 or 390 flywheel and clutch.

oh and sorry forgot one of your questions it is a 4wd
in that case it would be much easier to leave the 4spd. will have to buy conversion mounts or make your own. it is a very common swap with lots of info if you do a search for it on here.
