Welding hook up help..

Hey guys,
I am stuck. Just got a new place with no hook up for my welder.
Just need some thoughts.
If I put a normal house hold plug onto the welder and ran it off a normal plug it will trip the breaker. What if I put a bigger breaker in like a 50amp?
Will it still trip?
Any ideas would be great...
Cheers
Chris

This isn't the correct forum for this.

But whatever you're attempting, it sounds like a recipe for disaster.

depends on your wire gauge that goes to the breaker,,dont want to small with a big breaker,,youll burn up your wiring

Sorry,
There were no forums that I saw that had welding? Maybe i over looked it but because I drove a 77 f250 thought to slap it in here. Sorry if i put this in wrong forum.
But just wondering if this would work? 50amp breaker and plug the welder with new male end into a normal plug?

Fordmclovin,

There is a "welder question" thread in the 61-66 forum right now. You might find help there as well.

Good luck!

Unless this is a 110 volt welder you should not be trying to run it on 110 volts.( if that's what you are doing, - sounds like it-) You need to find out what the required power is for your welder and wire accordingly to suit it.

your best bet would be to hire an electrician, unless all new wiring has to be ran it shouldnt be very high, plus you could save yourself a headache and maybe even worse

electrician for 8 years, umm you will have to run a new wire, if you put a 50A breaker on the wire you will fry everything and possible burn ur house down.. just better to run a new wire man

Is everybody assuming he has a GAS dryer - instead of an ELECTRIC one in the garage?

If he has an electric it is probably 220v and I would be wired with 12 ga solid (not strand) wire - depending on the age of the house.

I would do a little investigating to see what it is (shut off breaker and pull socket out of wall - look at wire type/gauge) and then make the cecision from there...
