I got mine Today (sat). I am gonna try and throw them on this weekend sometime. The job looks fairly simple to do.
Robs06SuperDuty, how long did it take ya to do your install? Oh, and which way did you put them on? Does the boot go on the top or the bottom? The instructions from Bilstein kinda sucks.. LOL.
on the newer 05-07 style the boots go on top, older style they go on the bottom. Mine didnt even have boots it had stupid blue sleeves, I had to take my one rear off cuz of my exhaust so I took all of the sleeves off. I like the way it looks.
Boo_Daddy: your gonna need a 15mm 18mm and two 13/16(i think) wrenches for the shock removal, then the new bilstein nut is 3/4

Did you have custom exhaust installed that caused a clearance issue?
I have a flowmaster super 40 (3" in 3" out) with older 99-03 style tail pipe and a 4 inch tip, it was really close to the stock shock, I could've kept the sleeve on but it woulda burned it.

heres how I installed mine.
So you preferred the look of the older style tail pipe? If yes, can you post a pic?
Your truck looks really good. I too have tried to decide if I want to powdercoat my wheels black. I go both ways. My spare tire rim is black and when I put it on it looks great. I'll probably do it some day.
I installed my bilsteins today. Not that much difference in ride on the highway, but on the back roads (rough) there was a significant difference.
The install was pretty easy. I had the back shocks done in about 20 minutes. The fronts were a little bit long as the top nut is in a tight spot and you only got about 40 degrees of turning room, and its a LONG bolt... LOL.
SO far Im happy with them. The stock Ranchos (rebranded Motorcraft shocks) were really weak. I could collapse them very easily unlike the bilsteins.
Just a hint for people replacing their stock front shocks with aftermarket. Since you don't plan on keeping them, just cut the long top part of the bolt off with a recip saw and a metal blade and you will speed up the front shock replacement by about 30 minutes or more - especially if they are rusted on like mine were.
WildWildWest,
That is GREAT advice. I dunno why that didnt dawn on me. LOL. I pulled up my stool, grabbed two 13/16 wrenches and spent more time than I liked spining that damn nut a little at a time.
That inner fender liner just seemed to get in the dang way, and the retaining spike that holds it up is RIGHT in the path of the wrench. I skinned up my knuckles a few times on it... hehe.
thanks for the comments on my truck. I could compress all my shocks with one hand, pretty sad at 47K miles... I thought about cutting half of those threads off to make it easier but my luck it would screw something up, I wish ford would have just done what they did with the rear shocks and just have a post to slide the top on, but that would make sense...Coil Spacers should be in this week I hope, then I can put them on this weekend. Im still looking for a good but cheap Dual Steering Stab. kit, thinking Rough Country or Skywhacker.
