I would NEVER argue that the VAST majority of the time you are better off wearing a seat belt and I always do now.
BUT......my uncle was in his '78 Ford P/U up in the woods on a job and came around a corner where someone had left one of those rail type gates sticking out into the road like a jousting stick. It ran through his cab at the split second he ducked out of the way and it almost ripped the cab off of the truck, it was totalled.
He had his lap belt on but if it would have been equipped with a shoulder harness he'd be dead.
He went through a rolled over load of lumber in another incident in a Dodge P/U identicle to mine and then went off of a cliff and undoubtedly the shoulder harness played a role in saving his life that time. You just never know, you have to go with the averages and hope for the best.
I just don't think it should be a LAW.
I also agree with Brojon 2002 that if your NOT wearing your seat belt or helmet and you don't have the resources to take care of you dumb @$$ after your accident it shouldn't be incumbent on the rest of US to do it.

I hit a tree once in the drivers door at an extreme rate of speed, Had I been wearing a belt I would be dead!

Not to say they don't save lives, I have seen cases where they did, But I have also seen where they were the cause of death.

It should not be forced upon us!
This is supposed to be a FREE COUNTRY! It is NOT!

-Enjoy

If not having the right to choose weather or not to wear a seat belt was the only freedom being taken away it would be great.

When we give up ANY freedom it just sets the stage for the next one.
