Joe how long have you been living in Cali? Don't you know you aren't suposed to stop at a stop sign.
The best part of my stop sign ticket is I was sweating bullet because i was just doing 130 down I10 outside of phoenix got off at my exit and turned the corner at the stop sign this is at 3:00 am all of a sudden a car comes flying up on my *** then waits while he gets my plate then the light. I though DPS had just caught up to me. I think i onlty got the ticket because when he asked if i knew why he pulled me over i said no, i was thinking either 130 in a 75 or rolling the stop sign but wasn't guna say that.
All in all I seem to mostly get tickets when i make mistakes. When i am fregrantly violating the law there never seems to be a cop around thankfully. I don't speed any more or do the other stupid stuff i used too Only one of my violations was able to make it onto my record and that jacked my insurance up enough.
Not counting dot inspections I have been stopped in cali 3 times. The first time on a dirt bike this one went through the list head light tail lifgt brakelight turn signals horn tags I dont remember what all. When he got through I ask him if he knew whata dirt bike was he came back with do you know what a street is.I said I ride all over texas he said I wasn't in texas but finally let me go if I pushed it home.
The second I was pulling a bass boat in the 3rd lane passing somebody and he said no trucks in that lane I said I hadn't seen any trucks in that lane so he says your driving one I said there is a big difference between a half ton PICKUP and a truck.
These were back in 77 the last time I was in the 3rd lane in a big truck and the only ticket I have had to pay in cali 386.00 when he was through I told him this was the only state where it is illegal to drive safe (no sense of humor)
I have never even been pulled over in the 18 years I lived in Cali I only drove for 2 of them though. And I mostly drove my jeep which seems to be invisible to cops, when they set up the speed trap by our highschool they would pull over all the ricer kids and i would come flyn' through and they would just looked and nodded. If they had pulled me ove I would have explained that i just got the tires and my speedo wasn't calibrated yet and gotten a fix it ticket.
They don't fall for that "my tires threw my speedo off" crap around here. It's your responsibility to know how fast you are going. I've seen it tried a lot with out any success.

Pretty sure there is actually a ticket you can get for having a speedometer off. Might varry by state though.
Heard a hillarious story of a guy that got pulled over for speeding in his home converted electric car. He ended up in court and let it slip to the judge that he was in fact driving an EV. The judge pricked his ears up and started asking all sorts of questions about it (what powers it, how fast can it go, what did it cost to build and "fuel").
The judge gave him a reduced charge of "speedometer error" (same price, but no demerit points), and since it was the end of the court day, dragged his sorry butt over to the newspaper across the street to tell the editor about what happened and specifically about the electric car part of the story.
I know of none that would proven that a seatbelt saved a life. (how would you prove it)
I do know of a couple where because of a seat belt there was NO chance of living.
I ran a wrecker for several years and have seen people die in a wreck that was basically a fender bender and have seen wrecks that you wouldn't think they had a chance and they was never scratched.
I was involved in one where a lady crossing a four lane highway as she started across I told my wife surely she isn't going to try this. Well the lady realised I was there and stopped in the two oncoming lanes to wait for me to pass nobody else on the road, then when I was maybe 20 feet from her she apparently thought I had already passed and gassed it. I was driving a 77 f150 supercab and nailed her 80 f150 passenger door and front fender at 60 mph. When we were in the emergency room I overheard the doctors working on her talking about she had a classic seat belt injury. This lady spent 2 months in ICU because of a seat belt while I got a few stiches and went home.
But the state trooper did come to the hospital to ask me if I was wearing a seat belt I said I didn't remember but was sure I was because I always wear one.
On one of my seat belt tickets when asked why I wasn't wearing one my reply was I reckon I'm more afraid of the seatbelt than I am of you.
I love to see it when people say the seatbelt is going to kill me. That’s a bunch of BS. I have worked on an ambulance for years and I have not seen a seatbelt kill anyone. I have seen people get hurt do to the seatbelt not fitting right or them not using it right. You know putting the shoulder strap behind you. If you have been in a crash you may very well get seatbelt injuries. They may include bruises and such not.
I have picked up ejected people off the road; have rolled the cars off the top of them and had them half way out the windshield. I have yet to have someone complain about a seatbelt bruise, when they knew it was the seatbelt that saved them. It’s up to you wither you ware the seatbelt or not, just don’t start crying like a baby when your hanging out the windshield with your skin piled off.
As far as proving a seatbelt saved there life. Two people in the front of the car, one lived one did not, what one had the seatbelt on?
Hate to tell you but one living and one not proves exactly nothing.
As far as seatbelt saving lives I'm sure they have saved some, many in fact but they have also hurt it depends on the wreck. (pushing you diafram up in your chest is nowhere near minor)
All that said it still should be up to the person not the law. It is just a right taken without the vote of the people.
I agree, I don’t think it should be a law. As far as the diaphragm goes was the lap belt to high on the person or was the person small? I'm not saying there are not some injuries from seatbelts. I'm saying you are by far better off with a seatbelt (correctly fitting) then with out one. I at least hope your children are in car seats.
No she was not small, she was a little overweight but when you are Tbpned in the passenger side your body trys to lay downin the seat and scoot across this happens more often than you willever hear about. I have seen 2 different wrecks where the drivers side of the cab about the top of the doors is what got hit taking the corner of the cab and the shoulder belt with it and because of the seatbelt the drivers never had a chance. weather they would of lived without it on nobody can say.
when seatbelt laws first came to texas it was up to 3/4 tons only in New mexico cars and 1/2 tons only even suvs were exempt and both states your kids were still allowed to ride in the bed of a pickup. Adults are still allowed to ride in the back in no way was this implemented in the name of safety. they are just now getting around to passing laws for schoolbuses.
What many people never knew was that it was federal law in big trucks many years before it was law for the rest, but rarely inforced.
I’m sorry for your loss. It sounds like there was nothing that could be done, seatbelt or not. In Washington State the law was passed as a secondary offence. This means after you were stopped for something you can then get a seatbelt ticket. The law was later changed to a primary offence. You can now get stopped for not having a seatbelt on.
Washington passed a law a little bit back that makes using a communication device while driving a secondary offence. This more or less means using your cell phone while driving. From what I understand this includes CBs. It’s ok to use you phone if your using a hands free device. It’s only a matter of time before it’s changed to a primary.
Yea I think the seatbelt was secondary everywhere to start with.
I hate to say it but 30 years ago I loved or and wa, thought they were the best place in the lower 48 to live (west side) Last december I turned down a great job with good bennys in wa they just don't make enough money for me to live there anymore. And if everything goes as planned I won't even have to drive through there very much any more.
Washington has been looking at laws that tax you on the size on motor you have in your vehicle. My 7.3 would cost me an extra $600 a year for that law. Then there is the law on emissions, 7.3 would be an additional $500. This would bring my tabs to about $1200 a year. I'm currently putting on about 3k a year. At that rate I would be paying about $0.40 a mile for the tabs alone.
