7018= just about any thickness neduim and high carbon steel a good all around rod AC/DC+
6013= AC/DC +/- used for sheet metal and thin material low amps used
6011= AC/DC +/- used for greasey or dirty metal deep penetrating rod
6010= DC+ good for vertical and overhead welding on dirty metals also a deep penetrating rod
9018= AC/DC+ used mostly in the pressure vessel field boilers and pipe also
please correct me if I'm wrong with these, it's been a while since I stick welded.
Shorty 66 damn close, damn close. 7024 is a production rod replaced by wire
6011 is a shallow penetrating rod with fast freeze properties used primarly for root passes on groove welds and as a tacking rod. It's AC/DC compatable.
6010 is the same as 6011 but is only DC compatable.
6013 is a general use rod designed originaly for AC welders and use in the farm world.
7014 is a general rod that is rarely used anymore. I belive it was originaly designed for use in ship manufacturing and offered high deposition rates.
Thanks, I use to work for a old welding instructor/farmer. old skool. Learned alot from him. Thats where I did most of my stick welding. Now it is Tig.
Tig rocks. Thats all there is to say. I learned more in two months with an oil field welder then in 8 months of welding school. College is good, but overated.
