I read awhile back someone mentioned hearing a ticking noise when cold. then once warmed up it was gone.
I tried a search but couldn't locate it.
This is on the driver's side hear at a drive threw then after a few more miles it's gone.
So has anyone else experienced this, and is it anything to worry about ?
Sounds just like a piston, but I remember something about a belt of fan maybe
Mine has a tapping noise (than a ticking noise) when cold at times at idle (not always). When up to operating temps or cruise speeds, it goes away. I am not worried about it until there is a recall/TSB out for it (nothing really you can do on Fords part now). Started after the first oil change.
Sad to say, but it is under factory warranty right now (I also have a extended warranty on my truck) so that is why I'm not too worried about it. If the engine grenades it's on Ford. If I keep having problems associated w/ it. Then I will have them buy it back and get a new truck.
It is normal. Ford and GM say it is normal and all diesels make this harmonic tick. The only difference from past diesels is the new ones are so quiet you can actually hear it. Ford has a tsb out about it, that just explains what the tick is and says to do no repairs as it is normal and no amount of repairs will fix it. My truck has the tick and it is a week old.
this is a common issue and unfortunately there seems to be no solution - I like the "radio" approach. Mine also goes away as soon as the engine is warm

One thing to check even though it may not be your issue. Start the engine from cold one morning and get out of the truck. If the noise comes from the front of the engine area then you probably have the noisy idler pulley issue. I had this and it kinda sounded like a tick. It was replaced and i've not heard the noise since.
