found a great website

Came across this site while watching youtube videos, it is full of info on powerstrokes, and has lots of how-to maintenance videos.
I have been glued to it all day.....I cant believe how much i've learned.
Just thought I would pass it on.

drain your hpop oil or else!!!!

But really though, he's done alot of work on the trucks, however has no clue whatsoever how most of it works/functions, and why. He is correct to a certian point on some stuff, but usually that point comes very quick in his videos, and goes downhill from there.

If you are interested in learning more about a 7.3, you would be much better off spending your time searching on here and doing alot of reading, and other places such as guzzle's or RHN.

If you're not familiar with anything under the hood of a 7.3, there is a lot you can learn from those videos. Just don't follow his advice blindly. Some of his videos are incomplete, inconsistent, misleading, of just plain wrong.

i do suck out my pump now and then after seeing that clip..but thats only cause my reservoir does not have a screen in it to help filter out the dirtier thicker stuff that settles to the bottom..

I checked out my pump for the first time at 236k. I had changed the oil recently and the oil in the pump looked just as clean as what was in the pan.

I think all that does Ron is help change more of the old oil that doesn't come out when you pull the drain plug. Kris posted some pics a while back of the oil passage through the front cover (bottom half of the HPOP reservoir) and I don't see how you will accumulate anything in there aside from a thin film on the walls which changing the oil won't help.

I could see someone doing it if they went from an dino to Syn and wanted to get all the dino out they could, I didnt bother doing it, but some might. Either that or if its a fresh engine rebuild and at that first oil change I would, just to get all the oil out I could that may have small metal particles in it from break-in. Short of that its pretty much pointless.

Have you considered installing the screen Ron? Is your front cover shaped different where the screen won't fit? Where's your pic of the broken gasket in the reservoir? I believe the screen should fit yours.
