You are right, the door latch is threaded by the window regulator. If both window and regulator are out, it's easy to remove the door latch. But I found another way to remove it without removing the window and regulator (and without cutting the door in 2 pieces): http://www.45cui.com/45cui/door.html
Good news..... the door latch is out! Unfortunately, I did this by myself and the window & regulator ended up sliding to the bottom of the door. And of course, the window came out of the track. I think I may need to separate the window from the regulator in order to get it back in the track, but don't know how to do that. Any thoughts? And, again, thanks for the help so far.
Although it took me a while to get back to it, I followed the suggestions and easily removed both the window & regulator, and the door latch. Cleaned and lubricated all and put it back together. All is working great and I greatly appreciate this site and the help I received. Thanks.
I just refurbished my door handle shanks today. It takes a fair amount of wiggling and pulling to get them out of the hole and I could see realu rusty ones being very stubborn. I just build up the rounded off area with the wire feed, ground back to square and re installed. They set nice and straight now.
