Trans. Fluid Question

I have a 98 f-250 with a 4r70w. The guy at the parts store gave me mercon. My book says mercon V. Whats the difference? I already had the mercon in the truck before I figured this out. Am I safe to run the mercon for a while?

The difference is the MERCON V has anti-shudder additives that MERCON does not have. 4R70Ws are very susceptible to torque converter shudder. I would not run that fluid more than 5,000 miles at the outside. It would be MUCH better to get it out of there today.

I found an additive to turn the dextron III/mercon into mercon V. Or make it perform like it. That should work, shouldn't it?
