Trading tires???

I've posted here regarding the unavailability of factory 20" tires on a extended cab short box F-150. I asked my local dealer is he would order my truck with 18"'s and then swap them with another F-150 on his lot which has the $595 20" tire setup option. He said he can't because of some Ford bylaw BS. I wonder what these factory tires/rims would cost if one bought them elsewhere (or if they're even available)? Any input/experiences would be most appreciated as always.

How about $1,599 plus a $180 to ship? I'd find a dealer that would swap for you. And save a boatload of cash. I'm sure there out there.

If Double D were still here he could actually ask one of Ford's F-150 engineers/designers WHY this option is not available. If it indeed is a safety issue my thoughts would be the short wheelbase might have something to do with this unavailability??? Just a thought. But I know GM offers this setup on their Silverado/Sierra line so so much for that theory. Find a dealer that will research this for you. That's what there in business for right? Satisfy customers???

I can see why the dealer wouldn't swap just due to the factory window sticker options listed on that other truck wouldn't match what was on that truck if you took the 20's off it.

You'll just have to buy some on craigslist or ebay or whatever if you want the 20's. Then you can recoup some of your cost back by selling your 18's on those same websites.

I feel your pain my brother - ordered my 4X4 XLT and it came in with Goodyear Wrangler SR/A's. A street tire no less. Spoke to Goodyear shop and they will give me $505.00 credit against a $936.00 upgrade to Wrangle AT's. $431 out of pocket, can't understand why they put these tires on a 4X4 truck and claim them as all terrain. Thanks for listening man I feel better now, at least until the wife finds out. Pictures to come

Same here, when I bought my 06 the dealer swapped the rims/tires for me for the upgrade graded ones with painted accents. If this dealer wont do it I say find one that will.

I had them swap the 20's that came on my truck for 18's off of another FX4. They had no problem with this and gave me a credit for the difference. This is a dealer-by-dealer thing. If they want to sell you a truck bad enough they will work with you!

I'd check with another dealer, I don't see what the big deal would be as long as the wheels are a factory option on each truck, not a swap like an 18" wheel off an XLT to 20" Plantinum wheel. they would just have to adjust the price on each vehicle to make up for the change.

Don't use ebay as a gauge for wheel/tire prices. Most of these new take offs are posted week after week at stupid prices and never sell. You can do much better at getting a set for much lower.

I have numerous customers that bought aftermarket 20's or larger for thier trucks and only run them in the spring, summer and fall. When winter hits, they put the OE wheels back on. That could get a little pricey.
