Is there anybody out there that knows something about the engageing/disengageing on a Explorer -95
I have searched this forum and two Reapair Manuals and still don't know wery much about it
What starts the engageing? What produces the vacuum? Where is that thing located? Is the vacuum "on" all the time or just when switching?
Any troubleshooting guides when engaged all the time?
Many questions, hope for some answers in this great forum that has been the rescue many times when you live in a land that don't have too much competence on great cars like this!
i dont know about the 95 EXP specifically, but in general--- the engine supplies the vacuum thru a small hose. The controller can be on the front axle to disengage at the pumpkin, or it can be on the transmission gearbox to disengage the drive shaft to the front end. Most older units just disengaged the drive to the front axle at the transmission. The front alxe was engaged all the time, just disconnect the drive shaft to stop the 4 x 4. To work the vacuum you normally have a solenoid in the line and your electrical switch or button on the dash signals the solenoid to open or close the vacuum port. You can follow the vacuum line or wires to see where the location is. Probably near the drive shaft at the gearbox.
