I got a letter from FOMOCO a couple of months ago concerning reflashing my J1 F-250. I was trying to decide if I wanted to do it since my truck was experiencing no problems and MPG was a constant 13.6 unloaded. I read many posts of owners who did have it done with no ill effects so I had mine flashed yesterday. I immediately noticed better shifting and less turbo lag. I have been running it hard to try and initiate a regen to see the message but no luck yet. Got to keep tabs on the MPG to see if it increases or not. Bottom line is it seems to have done more good then harm, but only time will tell.
I got a J1 F250 as well. I'd thought it had all the current flashes on it. going a big trip this week with a toy hauler. This is the first trip of its kind for this rig.
Keep us apprised of the MPG. Mine could be a little better and I would be open to taking it to the dealer and giving it a go.
Question: If you have a reflash and it proves to be problematic to you as the operator and not necessarily to the dealership, can a person get the previous revision installed back?

I was told no. The previous program is deleted during the reflash
My F-350 is also a early job1. It ran just fine with no problems at all. We had the flashes done 2 months ago and it runs much better, shifts better and gets better MPG.
My job1 F-250 runs fine and gets better milage since the latest reflash which was done about 6 weeks ago. Between the first and the second regen it went 670 miles and lasted about 15/20 minutes. I like the notice on the info center, at least now you know that a regen is in the process.
I have always been told that you can not go back to an older flash. I would be very shocked if you wanted to though. The consensus is that the new flash is better all the way around, especially on a job 1 truck. I didnt notice any difference at all other than the message display, but my truck is job 3 so it had different programming to start with.
I have an early Job#1 and got the letter too. I was gunna do the flash @ next service. Trucks running very well. FYI- I'm running Spartan 150hp DPF-on tune and asked Nutty @ Spartan about the new flash. His reply was NOT recommending it. Supposedly still has issues that are supposed to be addressed in the next reflash, or even after that.... If you, like me, are running tunes, you'll have to get them re-done after the reflash. Just something to think about.....
Gonna do close to a 1500 to 2000 mile pull here soon. I currently have about 1600 miles on the truck. Kind of excited about it as I hope it kind of "stretches" the legs on this thing. Hatin' that 13 to 14 mpg big time, but I kind of saw that coming in.
Have to look at the DPF deletes and tuners after the truck has some mileage on it.
Nutty didn't get specific with the reflash issues. The DPF-on tune is an improvment. Minimal MPG gains, but more performance. It hasn't effected the regen interval or character at all. I regen every 700 miles with, or without, the tune.
I have a early job1 also.....just got the new flash...went 680 miles before the first regen.....
im still only getting 11 - 11.8 mpg thou...and still have the sooty tailpipes ...(I believe the dpf is cracked)..so its back to the dealer.....
my regen only lasted bout 6-7 min though.....
I have the edge insight guages which told me when the truck was in regen and it now matches the mess center....
I towed my 38 ' 5ver toyhauler last summer 4k miles over 3 1/2 weeks.... running about 11k -11500#..all over the west....I was impressed with the truck towing ...and it will do the legal speed limit (75 through nev)...but if you tow that fast bring your checkbook to pay for the fuel.....

I agree, this motor will run as fast as your wallet can empty....Get the DPF fixed and I bet your mpgs will get better.
I got the newest flash on my job # 3 and it does make a difference. Shifting is even smoother than it was before and I have seen a minimal increase in mpg's.(Has not been long enough to tell yet but I am thinking plus 1 to 1.5).
I have DRW and a 4.30 RE. (don't know if that will make a difference)
One of my family members has an early '08 6.4 (not sure if it is a job1), and he had the re-flash done early last week. He told me yesterday that so far he is getting about 2mpg better than before. He was getting 16mpg, and now is closer to 18 (90% highway driving). It's a F-250 CC 4x4.
