I have a 06 Explorer with 129,000 miles. My wife and I love it. Picked it up cheap last year wrecked. It's like brand new still, still has the new smell. The only problems we have had is the radiator leaking on both corners(which they suck to put in) and now we are having the problem with shifting from park. Seems you have to play with the brake pedal then you can get it to move, what do you think could be the problem.
If you think it is the brake switch, see if the brakes lights are coming (with foot on brake)on when you have the problem. If they are not coming on, then it is the switch.
There is a recall or TSB for this problem which was common on this model. Had mine done, they replaced something in the linkage. No charge, mine was still undfer warranty. Not sure about yours.
I agree with the above, It's a common problem with the 06 and they replaced my enitier shifter with an updated one. I also have had to replace the radiator..twice the both leaked. 1st one was on the bottom corner the 2nd at the top. I'll take a good old fasion brass radiator any day!!
Yup, common problem. Brake solenoid, interlocks with shifter so you have to be standing on the brake to shift out of park. Took me 3 trips to the dealer to get it fixed (I hope). With 129K miles, your warranty is gone, even the 100K powertrain adder. That's pretty hard miles for a 3 year old SUV.
