On average, how long have you all noticed your OEM shock absorbers last? I'm sensing mine are due, but wanted to get an idea if mine have lasted an acceptable timeframe, excelled the average, etc. My normal driving is 60% suburban, 40% highway. Tow a 4000lb boat during the summer. Expy now has almost 110,000 miles on her.
I've decided I am going with Bilsteins when it's time. They seem to be getting the most input as replacements and I like what I saw on their website.
I would say at 110K you are due. I changed mine at around 60K I tow a 3,000 pound boat and camp and ski with the truck. I put on Edelbrock Preformer IAS and am very happy.
I've got around 105,000 on them and I think I'm about ready. I'll hold off as long as I can given the current state of the economy!
I was thinking the same thing with holding off as long as I can. It rides pretty nice right now, almost like a luxury Lincoln or Cadillac, but it is starting to bounce a bit too much for my likes when going over dips or bumps in the road. Plus, with summer coming up, towing the boat and with the family of 4 and a black lab, I think I need to replace them...just to be safe.
I like the Bilsteins, but I will also look at the Eldebrocks, too. Any other brands I should consider looking at?
I can say that when you put on those new Bilsteins, not only will you notice the reduction in the bounce over bumps but, you will also notice the better handling all around. Do you notice a sway when going down the highway and changing lanes right now? Gone! I drive my truck hard on road and off road sometimes, and the Bilsteins perform absolutely fantastic. You wont go wrong! Good luck
