I'm in the process of getting my 92 F150 ready for a Cummins 12v swap. I'd think yours would be easier, as you have the same model donor truck. my guesstimate is it shouldn't take more than a week. I've found that a priority list in plain site helps. I like a dry erase board. A good shop manual with your wiring diagrams, ziploc bags, tape and a sharpie, along with a digital camera are your friends, also.

I'd find out about the trans first. I think you should literally be able to pull yours out and then set the other engine/trans in place. If you've labeled everything after pulling your old engine out (vacuum lines, connectors, etc) it won't take much to make the modifications to make everything fit.

The more time you take in getting everything ready ahead of time will make all the difference when going back together.

Don't forget about beefing up the front suspension, you'll be adding a bit more weight.

Hope this helps, Good luck

Does anyone know what work does it take to get a 96 7.3 in my 88 302?

Motor mounts, transmission, fuel pumps, and a computer to get things started. Plus, a million and one other little things. This '88 is an F250 or an F350 hopefully, if it is a F150, forget about it and buy a new truck.

I concur with Towmanjbo, I am a tow truck operator, and we tow a lot of 6.0s and 6.4s. They both suck. Get a 7.3 Powerstroke and do some modifications and you will get the power of the newer motors without the problems.
