'05 Overheating
.....here.First the spec's......'05 6.0, auto, 113K on the clock, packed into a E350 cube van.
My story.....
I bought this van from a wholesale dealer (whom grab it from an auction house) and then found me

I picked up the van last Tuesday, done all the paper work, like handed over the $$$ and then headed to town to get the plates for it, and the trip home, we went about 4 miles of 'back' roads, and when we hit the main highway, after turning, I punched it
to see what it had........went about mile down the road, and I looked down and seen the dreaded red light......"Check Gauges".......and the temp was to the top
I pulled over and shut it down and the 'White' smoke was coming out of the hood, popped the hood, and the degas bottle was puking like mad.
So, the van is still at the dealers, and I'm back here, and there's 240 miles between us......I done a lot of searching on here, and everything is pointing back to the EGR cooler, causing the overheating and puking.
My question is........If, I were to change out the EGR cooler, in the field per say, would this be enough to get it back to my 10-20 to do any additional work that might need to be done to solve this problem???
I stopped at a local diesel shop here, and at worst case, replace the EGR cooler, oil cooler, and new heads/gaskets, and what ever else, Oh, and pull the engine from the front......and something about his first born in collage......and I'm looking at a hefty repair bill......like 6K

So, after many phone calls.......the "dealer" has made me an generous offer on the van to take it as is, with the overheating problem, which there non-diesel mechanic said that there is anti-freeze in the motor

Or........run like the wind, and look for something else????
The other problem is.......getting it to my shop, and I got a quote to flat bed this, and that puts a thorn in the equation. Can I wrench, yea, but diesel is new to me......but I learn fast.
When I first fired this up, there was a "odd" sucking sound coming from the engine, no, not like the "tea kettle" sound, just like a vacuum sucking sound, the dealer had drove this van about 200-300 miles before I 'found' it, and claimed they had no problems at all.
Any thoughts.......suggestions???
Everything I've found in the searches leads back to the EGR cooler blowing out, and just possibility hydro locking the heads.
At the "new" price it gives me a lot to work with to get this van up and running again, and the box on the van is what I'm looking for in a work truck.
This is my first diesel too....and if this were me, I'd take the offer from the dealer and go find myself another truck.
Good Luck Pal.
Joe
I know my story is long

The point is.......I can walk away from this van now, with a full refund, or agree on the "reduced" price the dealer has offered me to take the van as is. And that price is very tempting

The type of box on the rear is hard to find, and that's what is drawing me to the van......other wise, I wouldn't even bother with this cuber.
Let's say, the price I can buy this cuber for, is about 2/3's what the box it self would cost new, and less than 1/3 -1/2 what other cubers I've looked at are selling for with higher mileage
