My dad has a 2000 Ranger 4x4 ext. cab and we're going to change the rear diff fluid. He went to our local Ford dealer but he said they had a hard time determining what kind of diff (LS or not) is on his Ranger based on the VIN number. He said after a few minutes of browsing the computer the parts guy just studdered and said he's 'pretty sure' it's NOT a LS diff.
So I want to find out for sure. How can I determine if the rear diff is LS or not? Did 2000 4x4 rangers even come with an LS diff? Thanks
Yeah, you could get an lsd in a ranger 4x4 or 2wd. The difference is that the lsd needs a frction modifier. There should be a little tag on one of the rear diff bolts with the info on it.
my understanding was if you jack up the back axle and rotate 1 tire and the other tire rotates in the opposite direction it is not LS. Anybody else heard that?
