I used the nylon locking straps on my tailgate. Granted, the metal hose clamps will be more difficult to remove, but they will also rust/corrode. Anyway, most thieves will want to grab and run; anything that slows them down will be a good deterrent.............

Locking is preferred... but this is just another level of security, especially for those who are constantly using the bed & gate.
