That option or not... tailgates are stolen every once in a while. If you are not going into the bed daily, it won't hurt to lock it up. You could also wrap a band around the bottom joints.

I never consider the possibility of these being a high theft item. It makes sense. I feel kinda dense. but could you explain what you mean by wrapping a band around the bottom joints? I have an old truck. Is there something different in the how the tailgates are hinged?
now for this band idea ...i wouldn't mind seeing a pic of this for one main reason, is that if you try to force the tailgate closed with some thing againts it like dirt or rocks or what ever, that it can pop right off and kit the ground ... its happen to me a few times in my 05 and in other super duty pickups
well i know i'll be geting some hose clamps here very soon, very great idea ,not to be smart but this should be more wide spread through out the fte web site to help everone out
That is a pretty cool idea however i would trade the hose clamp for a band strap. That way you would have to cut it to remove it.
I assume you mean a nylon band strap? That would be easier to defeat than the metal strapping. If someone wants a 'gate, they may have a knife or something on them, that could defeat a nylon band. Its all about speed..... you aren't going to defeat a metal band nearly as fast as nylon.

no i mean a metal band strap. sort of hard to explain. looks just like a hose clamp only you need a special tool to apply it. we use them at work for 1" and larger air and water hoses.
