That trying to buy the right used truck would be so exhausting! Here I am, nearly a month later, and maybe no closer to buying one now than I was when I started looking. I know that doesn't seem like a long time to some of y'all, but I thought I'd be done by now and ready to move on to bigger and better things - like hauling my horses on down the road.
I have to say though, that the OASIS reports have been absolutely invaluable, and I thank whoever it is that runs that for us - I refuse to even look at truck now without seeing the report first. Just wanted to let y'all know how much I appreciate that service.
One day I'll find my perfect truck - I just know I wil!!
It's most frustrating when I find one I really want to puruse, then find out it's been sold the day before - or in one case, just minutes before. And I'm searching the entire state of Texas! One that I'm looking at is over 200 miles away, and neither town is near a border.....
I understand your pain! After about 6 weeks of looking I just found my new truck today. Got lucky though. Gave up dealerships since every used truck seemed overpriced and neglected and also have one get away from me the day before I was ready to pick it up.
But finally it all paid off and I found the "perfect" one today.
I finally gave up looking because I was so picky...and then one day there she was. Stop focusing on it and it will work itself out and the right truck will come along.
I started looking for a 08 crew cab with a V10 in December. My dealer looked all over and everyone they found on another dealers inventory was sold. So a week went by and they found one in Tennessee. I was all set to go down and pick it up when the sales manager at my dealer said it had no California emissions. Just recently, in order to register a car in Pennsylvania it has to have CE. So I was about to give up when they found me a 08 3000 miles away in Las Vegas NV. So I paid the shipping cost to get it to my dealer in PA and I was able to get employee pricing with all the available discounts at the time. It will happen. You just have to be patient.

What are you looking for exactly? I might have some leads on some decent ones around here. Try to stay away from the small town Ford's, around here they are asking you to bend over without KY. It's ridiculous. Some of the big guys like Mac Haik are throwing Superduty's away for a reasonable price.
Being picky is definitely part of it, but being a girl, I tend to be more focused on the interior and colors than the engine - as long as it's an '06 or '07 6.0 diesel, with an acceptable OASIS, I'm good on that part!! But I need a brake controller, 4wd, short bed, and want a Lariat, two-tone paint, tan leather interior, captains chairs, steering wheel controls for radio and ac, and would like to have seat warmers, upswitches, movable pedals, chrome package and a spray-in bedliner - but those I will forgive if the rest is right. Favorite color is Dark Stone (grayish green - yummy!), next is Toreador Red, and a distant third is white.
Seems I'm either finding '07's with 30K miles for 30K, or '06's with 100K miles for 20-22K. I prefer the '07 since they're newer and nicer, but it has to be perfect for me to fork over that amount for it. Otherwise, a clean '06 will do as well.
See? I don't want too much, do I? LOL!!!

I've heard the same thing about looking for love.....

LOL Where you been all my life? ROFL
Nah not too picky..
Sometimes the easiest method is finding one close and adding the rest. There are plenty of us Ford Super Duty guys around Austin that wouldn't object to helping throw some stuff on. I'll keep my eyes peeled for something close to what you want. I'm only about an hour north of you.
Howdy neighbor! I checked one out a couple of week ago at Covert Hutto, but it had been ridden a little too hard and put up a little too wet.
Have you by chance ever heard of a guy named Byron that has a shop in Hutto, called Eddins House of Diesel?
Can't say that I have. I got a buddy who has a shop and lift in Spicewood, where I go when I need to tear the beast apart. I prefer to do all the work myself.
You would think with the crappy economy that you could find something decent. I know few months ago I saw 06/07 going for 15k. There was a Harley Davidson edition 06 with like 28k miles for 17k at Covert in Austin.
I keep finding lots of King Ranch editions, which I am not interested in. They're nice, just not for me. Very popular around here, though. That and white!! I swear, I can find five or ten white trucks for every one of another color out there - what gives with that?
There's one I'm considereing at SouthPoint Dodge - took it to that guy in Hutto for pre-purchase check, and he said it was fine. I like it, has everything I want, but they wouldn't budge off the price and it's too high ('06, 68K miles, 28.9? Don't think so), so I walked. Truck's still there, though. Maybe they'll be ready to deal in couple more weeks!
