Best Tire for..

What would you suggest the best tire would be for mudding and trails and for two months out of the year heavy snow wheelin.

See's very little road.

Right now i'm running 37" SSR's.
Looking to upgrade to a 42" tire or at most a 44"

Agressive trires tires dont do well in the snow from what Ive seen and experienced so I'd buy just tires primarily for mud since you dont see many months of snow. I know my tls's dont do well in snow. My mustang will do circles around my truck in two wheel drive in 6 inches of snow. My answer for you would be tsl's. Good in mud, Great on trails, But really you may wanna stick with the ssr's, I've never owned them but what Ive heard they are good in the mud and i would think that they would be better in snow then the tls's. my .O2

For 42- 44 inchers I said either TSL, I-ROKS, or BOGGER have the best traction off-road. But I Agree that TSL would be the ones I would place on my rig.

Hopefully 75f350 will pipe in. I would think if you can, go with the bogger. I have heard the Irocs are decent in snow also. I want to get 36" Irocs for the bronco.
It will see road too.

Pitbulls.. i just got a set of 44 Rockers, they are HUGE.. also they are the lowest cost tire i could find in the 44 size. only $403 each. they also have a Mad Dog, that my buddy just bought, but the biggest they come in is a 39. The mad dog will out do a TSL in the snow hands down.. i have not had enough time dehind the wheel with my Rockers, but they do seem to be better in the snow than my 42 TSLs where..

I had 33" BFG A/T's. They did good in the snow, but I need a better mud tire.

My 37" Irok Radials are really good in the deeper snow, but part of that is that they are radials. From what I've heard, the bias ply Iroks aren't as good in the snow.

I love these tires. More so than any other tire I've ever owned or driven with. Then again, my truck probably sees 50% pavement, 35% dirt roads and 15% offroad. However, it can be snowy here from October until May, and even when the roads are snowy around here I hardly ever run in 4wd.

I've had this discussion with 75f350. Boggers are not a snow tire apparently.

While in the snow with my 37's, I noticed they seem to like to slide off the road sideways. I winched myself up quite a few times, and once I had to be pulled up by my buddy cause the truck was aching to go off the edge. But I don't know if that was the tire itself, or just the mountain roads.

The 33" BFG A/T's did great in the snow.. but they're not a great mud tire.

Boggers are completely out of the question, as they are CRAP in the snow. ( So I hear. )

I'm going to ask my cousin how his 42" Iroks do in the snow by Canada. :P

Right now i'm leaning towards Iroks.

Yes and No... personally i have used Boggers,(on my Dad's 74 Bronco) and if there is anything the boggers can grab they will do just fine.. But if you dig down and find any ice, thats where they start to suck... i have a couple videos on my supermotors page with my Dad(boggers), my freind(claws), and i(at the time TSLs) playin in the snow.. i would have to say the bronco with the boggers did the best.. here is a link..

Edit: but yes the lateral control could be better.

I just went snow wheelin' this week. Hahah. Still deep.

I don't think BFG Mud tires are aggressive enough. I've been stuck with my SSR's and they're quite a bit more meaty then bfg's.

I' havn't heard much about ground hawgs. Anyone have some feedback on em?

As for the bogger. The snow where I wheel at is usually built up in layers.
Solid Ice - Few Inches of Powder - Solid Ice - Powder - Solid Ice - Powder - Ice

So, you hit alot of solid ice. And you really need to rip it up to keep moving foward. Only made it to the peak once this year.

Ok, don't know about you guys, but I have been riding with a group of people that run 42" Mickey Thompson Baja Claws.....with a 42" that doesn't see a lot of highway, they all run bias ply (and maybe thats why), but these tires do insanely well in the snow. Just air em down a bit, and they just eat through and over snow......

However, these tires are not well known for doing well in mud, BUT if you turn them around so that instead of from the front the tread looks like \/ , but instead looks like /\, they do EXCELLENT in the mud, but they create a ton of noise on the freeway, and do not ride over highway water so well.......

With that said, I would recommend the Baja Claws if you got the $$$

I would prefer not having to flip my tires around when I want to go into some mud. I need a tire that can deal with mud and snow reletivly well.
