Now if i were you, i would just stick with TSL's, i have 36in tsl's and i love em, they do great in mud and snow for me since i live in south dakota, i got plenty of both. they are the bias ply to and for some reason mine are holding up amazing on the steet. i believe i have between 10-15,000 miles on them and they still look pretty new! i dont think i'll be able to get away from them.
What you need is a very agressive tire with ALOT off void and great cleaning. Hands down the best tire for this is the IROKS. With all that void they both grab alot of mud, clay, snow, whatever falls between the lugs in the giant voids, and will work great on ice because all the pressure is on a few small lugs with alot of edges and sipes. With all the right profiles in the void to help release the mud and snow.
The only reason to have thick lugs like many of the other "mud" tires have, is for road performance, and highway life, but these same thick lugs become like ice blocks on ice and just slide around, same is true for hard clay.
This is what makes the boggers lame on the ice, the lugs are too thick, voids to small, not enough edges, and U shaped voids that hold suction on the snow
Yeah. You should probably be a salesman for Interco. Hahah.
Thats kind of why i'm leaning towards Iroks so much. Aswell as the mass amounts of good i'm hearing.
As for tire chains. Thats waaaaaaay to much of a hassle, and when driving on snow roads I don't want to worry about it when I hit something thats been plowed or sand put down on, then i'm running chains on wet pavement. :P
Not to mention 42" tire chains are expensive.
As for the keeping the TSL/SSR's. They don't make any tire bigger than a 38". If I did miss it, it certainly doesn't go to 42 or 44.
However, IROKS do.
Yeah. You should probably be a salesman for Interco. Hahah.
Your right they should pay me.
I would have gone with the Iroks but I spend maybe 75% of my time on the road. But the other 25% off-road and a couple months a year in the snow/ice so I went with the TrXus MT's in a 37". They have many of the same advantantages with a better lug to void ratio for the road. And as big as I could fit and get in a radial for a 16.5" wheel.
That is one more thing you need to think about, wheel size.
I got a 87, and I assume this is for your 88, I had to do a little trimming to get the 37's to turn while tucked, just a couple inches off the corners of the bumper and back of the finder. My next tires will be bigger so please let me know what you have to do to clear your 42s or 44s. I was thinking that in order to clear and tuck a 44 I would probably need to move the front axle forward a couple inches, you runout of room to trim the fenders when you reach the floorboards and body mount.
Over the next week i'm going to jack it up a couple more inches. There isn't any possible way I could fit a 42 right now. My 37's barely fit with no trimming. My cousin came over and we looked at my truck. He showed me how to get some lift out of it. Pretty easy cause its mostly stock. :P
My buddy is coming over in a few days to help me strip down the truck and we'll get to work hacking at the suspension.

Try a 2-3 body lift and that should clear up you trimming problem, or maybe even a add a leaf. I didn't see if you had coil overs.

You miss the point, I want my truck to actually work well offroad. In order to do that the tires need to be able to tuck up into the fenders for full articulation, without making the truck stupid tall. This ain't no mall crusier. Body lifts are stupid, all they do is make the rest of your truck weak to allow you to look tall, without any performance gains. There like wearing platform shoes.

I seem to have sticken a painful spot for you. I miss the point? Stupid tall? I meerly tried to state that a mild body lift could pervent tire rub on the body itself. If you wanted to be stupid tall there ways to do that, as you stated.. thats cool by me... if you do a mild body lift and the suspension lift correctly to adjust for the body lift; i.e. 4-link, adjustments on the coil over or leaf springs to compersate for the body lift, (so you don't sway and roll over). Then you don't have to worry about having a 'weak' truck. It's all in how you build your rig up. But to just say its a bad idea....? Come on... body lifts are stupid? Maybe you should try to think out side of the box? Moving the front axle is a good opinion don't get me wrong. If you can do it. Go for it! But really..... Stupid tall?
Why would you want to think outside the box? My box is nice and cozy.
I am not a fan of body lifts, just because I don't like the look. A truck I was planning to buy awhile back had 44" tires and could clear 54" tires easy. It had a 4 inch body lift or so. Pretty ridiculous.

Ah you can't bother and listen to em haha, I personally like body lifts as long as you never go more than 3inches. For some of us folk, a $100 body lift is a cheap way to get lift, I personally dont have the money to back spend a grand on a nice lift, also I will be putting a 2in body lift on my truck soon.

i want to know how the body lift would make the rest of your truck weak... my pickup has a 3 inch body lift, it also has 8 inches of suspension lift.. it clears 44s, even with the truck flexed out. the body lift also makes it easier to pull the t-case or trans.. also it still fits in my 8 ft garage door. so its not stupid tall by anymeans...
