Xfordman,
I never flushed the system, but I did drain and refill it a few months back. I was also thinking about either buying a new cap. Like I said, I haven't really looked for the leak, but it's not obviously spraying from anywhere, nor is the level really going down, yet. Maybe I need to just idle it and watch. and go from there. If it's easily accessible maybe a radiator shop would braze it in the truck and I can get a couple of good months of cruising out of it before I yank the engine and tranny.
Bars Leak!........good god, I'd walk b-4 I put that crap into anything!!! (JMO).....I've used Silver Seal over the years and had really good luck with it, allthough it's getting harder to find, (probabally cause it actually works!)......I've seen it stop a leak in a radiator, that had a stream coming out of it like a dog peeing on a tree!! and drove the vehicle well over 20,000 miles w/o another problem, as well as seeing it "fix" a cracked block in a old farmall tractor w/o another problem!!.....Could'nt believe my eyes at the time, but it really works!!!

I have to comment on the pepper thing. Last October in Bowling Green @ Beech Bend, we got to the show and heard something hissing well just my luck hole in the radiator. A pinhole to be exact but anyways a bummer since I was 3 hours from the house. I talked to a friend of mine (old rodder) and he looked at it and told me about the pepper trick and after about 12 beers or so, I stole all the pepper that the hamburger hut had and tried it and it worked. It got me to exit 6 in KY thats were the trans seal let loose but I ran the pepper very little like that over the winter since I was going to put in a new radiator anyways.
I agree short term would be good but I suggest pulling the tank getting it flushed and repaired (about 30-40 dollars around here) paint your saddle and clean the front of the truck while the radiator is out and roll on without any concerns about it. Good luck though.
