my 95 has hollwed out cats and a very short glass pack, and i have been told it sounds good at about 2500+. but it sounds kinda weezy at 1500-2500 and good again at idle. i think i just might put duals infront of the tires with a muffler though. it was way to loud straight piped out hte back with hollowed out cats. also sounded real ratty from 2000+
just my .02 though
i just want a nice, not stock sounding truck, obviously i will never get that 302 sound, i just wanna get it to sound good even if its quiet
and do it legally so i can keep the coppers off my ***
Well then my friend, I can help you out.
I used to have an exhaust system on my truck where I had both cats. It was a cat-back Y pipe that ran into two glass pack chrome tips. There's a vid on YouTube of a guy's truck who has the same set up. Just check out Jegs. My truck never sounded ricey and was at the perfect noise level; it wasn't loud but it wasn't quiet. It had a very aggresive idle too.
Maybe just take your truck to the exhaust shop and have them mimic this. Have them run a Y pipe (I'm assuming you want the look of duals?) straight out back with short glass packs near the tips.
i have no cats duals runnig out at a 45 angle behinde the rear tires 2 1/4'' diamiter pipes with 4''diamiter tips
and yes bill im working on a sound clip
I personally think this sounds good, period. Keep in mind this dude still has his cats. And from personal experience I know this sounds deeper in person. I recomend this set up if you're going to keep your cats (which I think you should).
I'm working on finding you the Flowmatser 40 sound clips I found.
Rockin300, hurry up man! I want to hear your Mini Cummins!!!!!!!
Here's a Flowmaster 40 series vid, but I think his cats might be gutted. I know there's a vid floating around somewhere of a 300 with stock cats and a flowmaster with tail pipes. I'm trying to find it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gP2YRv0QMmc
yeah, but deeper than that it makes my ears ring when i have both windows down
I was thinking yours probably is deeper. They say the longer the pipe you run the deeper it sounds. Plus you have dual pipes. I bet mine sounds pretty close to yours. I'm guessing yours will sound more like a tractor than mine does. Man I love the sound of a straight piped I6!
doesnt sound to much like a tractor its a deep growl when im light on the gas and it cracks like a straight piped cummins when i have it floored it also has something to do with my intake i do get alot of attention from people, cause its different then the typical v8 tones
that is perfect, my dads realll good friends with the guy at the muffler shop so i will have to talk to him, thanks for all your help
and with the glasspack tips do you need to run a muffler, or are the tips like mini glasspacks?
No muffler, bro. Your cats would run into the Y pipe and from the Y pipe to the glass pack tips. If you don't want to buy the glass pack tips, you could probably just put a glass pack in front of your Y pipe.
By the way, use the shortest glass pack(s) you can. I wouldn't use anything longer than 12''.

I get looks from people too, but I think for different reasons. Guys like us appricate our exhaust notes.. Other people, not so much.
you wont need mufflers with them,so what have you desided on for an exhaust,i get laughed at by chebby boys until i hit the gas to the floor and embarass them in front of there friends and girlfriends
