I have a 1966 F-100 that i recently purchased and am considering my painting options. Searching the net i came across the Earl Sheib website and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this paint shop. My truck is in primer any pretty much ready to go, what prep work needs finished i will do myself.

I havn't but know a few who have and also Maaco.
As you know prep work is very important so if you did good work the paint will look better.I say if you can't do it yourself then go with Earl. The local "in/out the door" shops will charge you to much just for shootin it.
The Earl jobs can turn out ok,there attention to minor details can be alittle "iffy" but you get what you pay for also.
Good luck,
BTW,

I had two done from Sheib and both had to be re-done. The first one had all kinds of flaws in it and the second one had NO shine, all orange peal. The second one is now my daily driver and after the second repaint from Sheib, it is pealing on at least 4 spots and bubbled on several others. I found over spray, I found paint on the inside that was hard to remove and wasn't even my color. The body work was paid for and NOT done! The hood looks bad and that's where I paid for body work to be done. I got the best paint job they offer and paid 3 times the standard price for extras (body work, warranty...)

With the total price paid, I wish I had gone to Macco or One-Day, Either way, make sure you inspect and return for a repaint as soon as you can. I had to see the district manager for the first car to get repainted.

Thanks for your response guys, i think i'm gonna shop around and see if i can find someone in my area related to the business to take on the job privately. I've heard alot of not so good and terrible jobs been done by Sheib so i know they're what i'm after for my truck.

Thanks Again, Mike

Earl Sheib has been around for a long time. Things haven't changed very much, and that's first hand info. I had my old Toyota repainted back in '78 in a Cleveland shop. When I got my car back, I had more orange peel than Florida has orange groves, and enough runs that I SWEAR could hear the car asking for Maalox! It took 3 return trips to get it bearable. (Their initial answer: "Whaddya want fer $69.95?") Two years ago i had a little bump on the Dodge rear quarter panel. My mechanic neighbor repaired the damage for me no charge, but i had to get it painted in a shop. He suggested Sheib. I began shaking, but was told "things have changed". I shoulda known!! My quarter panel is a lovely off-color match, but if I look at it with polarized sunglasses, it looks OK. Take it from me..Visit a good custom shop and spend the money! You get what you pay for, whether the job is big or small. Spending a little more is worth it. After all, isn't this your baby??

Heres what I did. Searched around, found a shop, made friends with a painter. Rented a booth $35-75 a day. Paid the painter $100 to paint my truck. We drank beer and looked at my new paint job. Looks good. Btw, it is true that prep will make you or break you. Good Luck!

Ole Earl used to be in town here, but large crowds with pitchforks and torches ran them out! I actually seen a painter use the same uncleaned gun that had a lighter shade of what the current car was painted still in it. He just kept spraying the car until all the paint looked questionable. Actually laughed and said the famous "what do you expect??" line.. Save your $$$, have it done right..

I had my Mustang painted at Maaco, and was very pleased with the work, as were fellow Maacoers in our area- the catch is you should do the prep work, remove all the lights, etc., pus some extra wheels on the car you don't mind getting oversprayed, and plan on putting everything together- don't leave them anything to do but paint the car. Remember- a HS kid is putting the masking paper on there...
