any suggestions on a chip and a cheap but decent air filter for a 06' F150
I have been running an AEM DryFlow drop in filter ( about $35.00) that has served well. Fits in the stock intake without any modifications. Combined that with a modification that replaces the stock intake "snorkle" with a piece of 3" PVC pipe creating a CAI without completely replacing the intake (about $3.00 and 2 hours of my time). For a tuner I have the Gryphon with a custom 87 Performance tune (about $450.00). All this has made an amazing difference in the truck. More power, better throttle response, and better mileage.
Just added a MagnaFlow 14" muffler to replace the constrictive stock muffler and that alone jumped the whole setup up a notch. Real happy with the results without spending an arm and a leg!

Yeah I got a lot of power out of my super chips tuner even on the 87 tune. It's about 300 for the tuner online if I remember right. For a intake I went with an airaid cold air unit that came with a lifetime filter for 200 bucks on summit.

Go with a Green Performance filter if you can find one at a reasonable price. I paid $90 Cdn for mine about 4 years ago. Dyno tested mine to be worth somewhere between 3 and 10 horsepower depending on the rest of the set up. They are, to me, the class of the oiled cotton filters. Check out the website by googling Green Performance.
I have been more than pleased with my Diablosport Predator tuner as well. Am currently using it with my third truck. Only glitch was when we were doing a custom tune on the dyno and that was quickly remedied with a phone call to the tech support people.
Never did establish any baseline numbers with the stock tune, but the custom tune added 10 RWHP and 22 ft/lb of torque above the best tune pre-programmed into the tuner. And on 91 octane gas with no detectable pre-ignition.
Final numbers were 228 hp and 292 ft/lb of torque at the rear wheels.
I added a Magnaflow muffler with 3 inch pipe from the y-pipe back after that but never did get a chance to run that combo on the dyno before I sold the truck. Seat of the pants says that added even a bit more torque.
There is an air fliter flow test published on the net. I made my own ram air intake built into the oem plastic Air intake manifold and use a WIX HP oem replacement filter. The Wix unit flows as well as any permanent oil/oilless filter but has a much better air flow design creating better intake volume and is very inexpensive. Additionally, it filters as well as the oem unit.
I ordered a Superchips Flashpack 1815 from Strippermotorsports.com (866-706-7744) and the service was excellent! Including shipping the price was $365. They also carry other brands and were very helpful on the phone responding to questions, etc. which was much more than the other retailers were even willing to do!
