No OBD II signal?

My son in-law went for his emissions test. The attendant told him that he wasn't getting any readings from his OBD II. We both thought it was a fuse. We looked in the manual and can't find any that seem to be the right one.

Any pointers as to how to figure it out would be appreciated.

It is a 05 F-150 5.4.

Thanks for any help.

David

The OBD test port & cigar lighter are "probably" wired to the same fuse.

Does the cigar lighter work?

A couple of years ago I had a similar problem getting my emission test. They said the machines couldn't read some of the newer Fords. I tried two different stations before I took it to the dealer, where they did the test. There was a software update to the testing machines to correct this problem. I have since used these other places without any problems. This may or may not help you, but it 's something to look at. Good luck.

I agree with what BillC is mentioning... as my mother's '05 Taurus does the same with my OBDII Actron; but when I use my Snap-On diagnostic tool it reads the codes and other telemetry just fine.

Also, the guy at the local Advance Auto also has a hand-held *newer* Actron that will read her car too.

I ask my son in law to check the cigar lighter. It doesn't work. He didn't have time to look at the fuse yet. He had to be at his birthday party.

Thanks for the replies. I just had my 05 checked a couple weeks ago. No problems, thank goodness.

It definitely is the same fuse as the cigar lighter. Just happened on my truck. My EDGE went dead, thankfully it was just the fuse!
