tranny problems...

have a1994 F-350 7.3 D mason dump nad having some tranny problems. have reverse and but will not go forward.. trying to figure out if it is something simple before i bring it to the shop and or if will be a complete rebuild would it be cheaper and better to find another used one someplace?

Not going forward is a mechanical failure inside the trans.

definatly needs to come out. what was the truck doing at the time of the failure? does it move if you choose anything other than "D"?

havent tried, it is at my brothers house now and he is on vacation.. will try over the weekend other positions on the stick.. reversve works that much i do know

same thing happened with one of my dad's work vans, transmission is shot

its not a big deal to go try another gear position, as mark said you have a major mechanical failure. it will be obvious when you start tearing it apart what broke. when that happened to mine it was the foreward planetary that let go.

I thought it may be something major.. not looking forward to getting that bill. I may looked for a used one just to see prices
