Hey guys, A little help here with my front differential. I have a 75 crew cab with a closed knuckle. 9/16 bolts holding the cover on.top web has these # C38912 Lower web has 60F. Any idea for sure what it is?? I have been told 9/16 bolts is a tell tale of a dana 60???
Thats what I thought too,but not sure- did they have a closed knuckle dana 60 and if they did is this one of the good ones? I am running 37 inch tires on it with no lift. Not that I do alot of off road tricks or anything but it is used for back country hunts and dont want to be left stranded with a weak broken axle.
The Dana 60 ID tag is bolted to the axle housing to the right of the inspection cover (to the left on a rear axle).
The tag is 2" x 1/2" two bolts are used to retain it.
The Dana ID number will be either 7 or 8 digits, like this: 610010-1 or this: 610010-11.
If you post the ID number, I can decode it.
------------------------------------------
The Ford ID tag is/was under one of the bolts that holds the inspection cover on. The code will be something like this: D5TA-AA.
Many of the Ford ID tags are missing because peeps left them off when re-installing the cover.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The AXLE code is stamped on the Warranty Plate, located on the left door face below the latch.
Most Warranty Plate AXLE codes do not contain 4WD info...but you could post it, and I'll see what it decodes to.
Wait! here we go, the front tag was hidden by the power assist steering ram. Kid of rusty but cleaned it with steel wool so looks like 4 10 D3TS MA at top of tag, lower reads 603448-1 looked at the rear again and looks like that one is gone and appears someone has siliconed the cover on.

Ford ID Number: D3TS-MA / Dana ID Number: 603448-1 = Dana 60-F / 4.10-1 / non Limited Slip / Free Running Hubs / 3800 lb. Front Axle Capacity.
What would you guys recommend to replace it.What do I look for besides a high price! The axles all look the same to me.Any pointers would be helpful.I plan on keeping this so may as well do it right and dependable as I can.
Help me ignore my ignorance, but what exactly will I be looking for besides 9/16 bolts holding the cover on.Are all 78/79's high pinion dana 60's or can this newbie be taken for a ride buy someone smarter/more informed than me.I may not be the brightest when it comes to axles but at least I know where I can find some help.YOU GUYS!!!
Anyone can be taken for a ride when it comes to buying something you know nothing about. All 78-79's only were offered with a high pinion D60 as an option.
