Well thats kinda right. I drive a '03 Mack and a '07 Sterling, all the lugs are right-hand. But you are right in saying if they did it at the factory, they did it for a reason. I would just leave it like it is.
I personally wouldn't get too wound up either way, my dad's 84 250 has the lefties, my 86 does not, and I don't have any troubles with them coming loose, and it isn't for lack of weight to haul...
Oh, I agree that is the reasoning, not sure it is accurate, but it is the reasoning. I had stated something similar, but not maybe the same way earlier.
My '70 F350 DRW has left hand threads on the left rear. When I bought it in '06 one of the left rear studs was sheared off. I guess a previous owner didn't know about the left hand threads.
This is the second LH thread post in less than a week.
If it were mine, I would swap them out for RH and never have to worry about it again.
Yes, they did do this for a while and yes they STOPPED doing it also so I don't buy the whole "centrifugal force" theory.....
Like I said in the other thread: my 38" tires and steel rims are pushing over 150lbs each and I have had ZERO problems with them cruising down the highway in excess of 70 mph.
I worked at a garage off and on for a few years and ran into this on the same drivers side rear.
Was odd but my friend who owned the shop said he sees in once in a while.

Well, this thread is about 3 months old now.
As for the Centrifugal force theory. This is the reasoning why they are left handed, and why you find any left hand threaded bolt or nut for that matter. Some fan clutches, house fans, etc... use left hand threads etc...
Is it really needed?, Was it overkill on the manufacturers part? That is a different matter altogether. I say for a pickup it's overkill.
