I just picked up a 1983 F-100 4x4 that someone modified. It has a 460 lincoln motor in it. I am trying to figure what transfer case is in this so I can figure out the shift pattern it uses. I have pictures, but I am new here and not sure how to upload them. the number stamped in the case are
Only the f150 came in 4wd. The 460 only came in the f250-up, and only around 83 or 84 f250's and up.
If it's cast iron, it's probably a np205 transfer case, although I think there was a np203 that was cast iron, and it was a full time 4wd case. These are all 70's transfer cases.
All the 80-up transfer cases were cast aluminum, and usually they were the np208, or the borg warner 1345. The np208 lever moves straight back and forth, while the borgwarner requires you to pull the lever toward your leg before it will go through all the ranges.
