Thanks. I'll get a manual. Any advice on what manual to look for? I see there's a few different manuals available.
Was the E4OD the only available auto trans back in '96?
Thanks!
I haven't got time to look into it until last night. I haven't been running the truck much lately but the harsh shifting seems to come more frequently. Last night I dropped the pan. Oil seems ok. Some slush on the magneto. I then dropped the valve body to check for sticking valves. The 1.-4. valves move smooth and snap back in place when gently pushed with a small screwdriver. So- when I move the EPC valve it seems loose and won't go back without help when pushed all the way out (in direction of center VB). When going the other direction I can see the springs compressing and pushing it out again. But when pushed all the way out it won't return without a little help. It can actually move about 1/8" without being affected by the springs.
Is this correct?
Also when attempting to pull the valve out of VB it won't come out. It only slides out till the inner part of the clip groove needs to go through the outer bore in the VB. It seems like the bore is too small to let the valve go out. Any ideas aroud how to get it out?
Anyone? I really want to make sure the valve is operating as supposed before I put the VB and pan back on. The fact that it can move about 1/8" without being affected by the spring really puzzles me... Not getting it out adds to that! Thanks
Ok I got the valve assembly out. It looks ok and slides pretty smooth. No broken springs. The sloop still doesn't seem right... Anyone on her who knows how this valve should act?
I have a 2000 f-250 4x4 with an e4od and it shifts fine but when it shifts into overdrive it shifts hard. and it seem to shift just a bit early. it goes into overdrive at 40mph. no flashing light. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I have a 96 350 w/ turbo and microchips tuner. When it started shifting hard, I hooked up the tuner to read codes. It had a shifting error. I cleared the codes and reinstalled performance mode. Everything worked fine. Occasionally it pops up again and I clear the codes out. I'm scheduling a tranny overhaul to eliminate the problem for good. I guess with 280K miles on it, it's time!
I have been fighting a stalling issue for a while. It turned out to be a bare wire under the dash grounding through the u-joint in the steering axle when turning or driving on bumpy roads. Back to the shifting issue: I have not measured the TPS with a volt meter yet but I connected a ohm meter across the two signal pegs on it and measured when slowly moving the pedal. Every time the pedal reaches about 1/4 of total travel the readings disappears for a veeeeeery short amount of time. And sometimes when I let go the pedal really quick it does the same. Can failure in the TPS caus shifting issues like hard shifts or that the trans won't shift from 1. to 2. without going to about 3k? It also shifts to 2. when I let go the pedal fast and kind of play with it. Allissues only happens occasionally.
