I've gutted three of them and never broke a bolt yet. I always start spraying a few days ahead of time with PB Blaster to help break them loose. I've broke a few sockets but no bolts. Also the 3 I did were all on Arizona trucks so maybe it's worse with a truck that sees snow and salt.

I just gutted my EBPV two weeks ago. I had ZERO problems getting the three bolts loosened. I did spray the bolts several times with Kroil penetrating oil, starting two days prior. Kroil really works good. It's smells bad and eats through anything. I've loosened some nasty bolts with this stuff.

I installed my exaust at the same time. With the new exaust, the difference was noticeably better. How much of that improvement was due to the butterfly valve being removed I don't know. I imagine there is at least some efficiency improvements, as the butterfly valve takes up a lot of room. With it removed, it seems logical to think your exaust is exiting with less obstruction. Beware, I created an oil leak once I disconnected the EBPV actuator rod from the valve. The leak came from the EBPV cylinder hole. After much swearing and nashing of teeth, I yanked the turbo and pedestal. The pedestal is now having the EBPV cylinder cut, removed, and oil holes welded shut.

8mm 12 pt. Mine came out with no drama. I took the exhaust housing off as well and it came off pretty easy too.
