I was thinking about the powermaster 140 amp internaly regulated alternater.is it difficult to change that out. I wonder if there is a adapter harnes that just plugs into the existing harness. P.S. thanks to all for help on my starter issue yesterday.
I run a 3g alternator-130amp, just google 3g swap, or whatever-lots of info. You can make your own wiring harness, its not too bad. I used a factory one from a mercury sable-just for the fusible link, cost me $5.
You can get a pre-made wiring harnesses too. Fairly easy install, nice looking, and works great!

Are you running a single groove pulley? I read somewhere that anything over a 90 amp won't work right with a single groove, has to have 2 belts or a serpentine. I would love to upgrade, but I don't want to change the pulley setup.
I've been running a single groove pulley with my Powermaster 140 amp internally regulated alternater. The belt needs to be tight but no problems since I put the alternator in several years ago. I'm not sure how much of the 140 amps I use, though. My truck doesn't have a power hungry stereo (unless you count the 460 with dual exhausts and it's fed on dino-fuel) but it does have high wattage off road lights.

Great! Thanks for the information. I will be doing the swap soon.
