I bought a '97 Powerstroke with auto trans @5 years ago. I have driven it 22000 miles and it now has 223000 miles on it. The Banks transcommand was on when I bought it. What will happen if I "pull the plug" on it? Does something else need to be plugged into that harness?
If you unplug the command you will limp the trans.
(2nd only or 2,3 only)
You can remove the command and install a jumper
wire from yellow to orange. This will revert to oem.
Or as TJ stated repin wires back to the oem s-pack connector.
Call Banks and tell them you lost your bypass plug, they will send you another one. My truck I bought a year ago has the Transcommand but I didn't get the plug- a quick call to Banks and a new one was on its way free. If you don't want to wait, do as Bill said.
Banks has the manual online--I thinks bankspower.com I just pulled mine off my truck after 2 years of having the bypass plug in. Easy job about 15 minutes
The bypass plug is nothing more than a jumper wire
(yellow to orange).

Understood, but it's nice to be able to just plug something in and not have to worry about rigging up a jump wire on your own, disassembling the connector, etc. Plus, I'm not gonna complain for free
It won't harm the trans, Banks products just aren't well loved on here because they are overpriced and over-hyped.
I have a 1996 F-250 supercab, 7.3 automatic. I pull a 27 ft. fifth wheel trailer which weighs 8500#. I drive alot in Mexico - bad roads, speed bumps, hills, curves etc. To save the brakes, I down shift using the overdrive button from 45 to 35 mph and then down to second gear from 35 to 25 mph.
Will doing this cause any problems down the line?
Can anyone recommend a way to add more engine brake with an aftermarket product?
Other RVers I have talked with are also not hot on Banks.
