technically any reputable shop can do a flush. make sure they use the proper fluid. The newer Fords require Mercon V. Dexron/Mercon type fluids are not up to spec.

I prefer dropping the pan and changing the filter and checking for loose bolts. A lot can be diagnosed by what you see in the pan. But with your low miles a flush is plenty good.

I am pretty sure by law, As long as you perform maintenance at prescribed miles and using fluids up to specification, you are covered under warranty. Keep receipts.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

i can't see why you couldn't get it done at a local shop. the dealer would probably charge you more anyway. and if you take it to your local shop, make sure they drain the converter too

$300 sounds pretty stiff - dealer did mine for a little over half that with the external filter change.

A proper flush of the Torqueshift requires a machine that is capable of heating the fluid, so be sure whoever does it is equipped to do it right.

It was around $160 with the external filter change - I had a discount coupon, I think for 15%.

The original post was about an '06 F250. All of those have a TorqShift transmission. MERCON V will KILL the solenoids in a TorqShift. It must use MERCON SP, not MERCON V. And it requires a heated flush machine, too, or the internal thermostat will be closed and it will just mix old and new fluids instead of flushing.

I would suggest getting the 30K svc at the dealer, not just because of the tranny but there are other items to be taken care of. I think mine cost around 400.00 when I had it done on my 06.

Included front 4x4 maint, trans, eng oil, driveline.
