A local guy has a CMI cap that I am interested in. He said his Super Duty ('06) bed does not have the plastic bed caps but my truck ('05) does. Maybe his does and he doesn't know it? The cap is meant for a Super Duty. Do I just use bed rail tape/seal on the plastic (cleaned obviously) and install the cap?

Thanks,
I used the bed rail tape on my cap. It needed to have two strips on the front of the cap to compensate for the gap.
If his truck still had the plastic rail caps, I think he would know it. You can easily see them from the inside.
When I bought my last cap, they asked me if I wanted the plastic covers removed, or left. (I chose to leave them)
Some caps have a bulb seal attached to the bottom of the shell, so no other weatherstrip is required. It's a better way to do it IMO. I don't know who "CMI" is, but if you can get the actual company name, you might be able to look up the details.
