wondering if anyone could tell me if it would be possible to install a 5 speed manual trans from 6.5 chev diesel into my 86 ford f250 4x4 which currently has 4 speed np tranny and 460 engine.
Chevy trannies are different than Ford trannies. Input shaft diameter and splines, etc. It may fit, but it would be very unusual if it did.
What you could do is look up both vehicles on rockauto.com, and look for a clutch assembly. Sometimes in the description they list the spline count on the clutch disc, and you could compare them.
If you have an NV4500, you can swap it. Sometimes, the input shaft must be changed, you need an adaptor, and some other details. Read through this site talking about swapping into a Ford PU:
Wonder how hard it would be to put one behind my '84 300 6? Have an AOD now. Planning on a 5.0 in the future. Hmm.......
Not all that hard from the post / pics that are on this web site. Do a search for "tranny swap" or "ZF" or "5-speed" to find the swap story. It was very well done, looked great, and didn't cost all that much IF you can find the tranny for a good price.
I found the pedel assembly, clutch release assembly, and clutch master cylinder assembly through LMC. I guess i'll start buying it one piece at a time. I should have the 302 together by then.
What was included in the LMC pedal assembly?
Their catalog appears to show the bracket for manual trans. truck available, complete with the brake pedal, but without the clutch pedal - is that correct?
92 & up unit shows everything included
