See if you guys could help me out. Looking to try and put duals on my 1997 F250 and bigger from brakes on it. If anyone can help that would be great. Really dont want to get rid of the old girl dont thank i can find a obs 350 out there with low miles or i cant find truck like i use to. But and help would be great.
If I understand correctly you wanrt to put duals on your truck. If so you will have to put a dually rear end in there. It is wider to accomodate the duals.
You should be able to find a good Dually out there.
Whatever you do will not change the ratings. It still will have a GVWR of 8800 lbs. Any weight you add with the dual wheels and such will come off the weight you can carry without being over this number.
You can either swap a dually rear end under it, as NEAL 97 250 said, but then you will have two different wheels (dually wheels on the rear, regular wheels on the front) and will either need to carry two spares or run without.
Arrowcraft makes THESE ADAPTERS that will space things out to where the dually wheels will fit front and rear so you will only need one spare for all six wheel positions.
They also make COMPLETE KITS that can include dually fenders. The KIT 100 converts the rear, KIT200 converts the front to use dually wheels, KIT 300 does both ends and includes steel wheels and stainless wheel liners. You can add dually fenders if you wish.
These are pretty high quality kits that seem to work well but they do not change the truck ratings (vehicle weight, combined weight OR axle weight).
Thinks for the information. What im looking a t doing is hot shotting with the old girl and thought if i put duals on it would help. Then i was told the only differents from the 250 to the 350 is a leaf springs. And the way of getting way with pulling more is bigger brakes it is true.
The only difference is the dually has a wider axle. No different other than that. It has heavier springs also. If I were you I would leave it alone and hot shot the truck as it sits. The only reason I would add a duall is for more stabilization.
Spacers add more wear on the bearings. So if you really need a dually get the axle and don't shim it.
