I have seen Super Dutys with a lift added under their bed to make the standard bed into a dump bed. Where could I find one of these? Whats the usual price range on these? Is it difficult to install? How much wieght could one of these lift?
Also, a friend of mine added extra leafs to his pickup to give it extra support. Can this be done for an F250 or F350? How much of an increase in load could you get from this? Where would i look for these?
Ive heard there are kits or whatever that can make a regular bed dump, but im not sure where to find them. Im really curious if i can push a little more weight into this truck by adding leafs.
Here's a link to a story in Four Wheeler mag. on the conversion. Not sure how old it is or if the company is still in business. Worth a try though. As for the extra weight, you can add leaves but watch your axle weight rating. And adding them won't raise your GVWR.
There are several dump kits that are sold on line. Pierce is one, and there is another in the same town down in Texas. I wouldn't get one for commerical use, but they are more than enough for home use. Plan on a day to install one.
For weight, I put on some Firestone air bags. They work fine with my camper and are easier to install than a new set of springs.
Plan on about $1200 for the dump kit and another $300 for the air bags. I sprung for the remote control on dump for another $75 and it is pretty cool. Kind of a novelty, but real handy if you work alone.
Thanx for the info guys, just what i was looking for. Now i gotta decide if 1200 bucks is worth a little convience .
As for the leaves, is there any kind of kit, or do i gotta rig something up myself? i know a buddy of mine did that with his GMC, just got some extra leaves, a couple special u-bolts, and rigged it himself. But hes a mechanic, and im not .

Reason: wanted to add
Like was said above, airbags would be a good investment or you could go with a set of Super Springs. They bolt on above your leaf springs and take minimal time / skill to install. They make them in different weight capacities.
It's an easier install than the airbags and has plenty of capacity. They make them for trucks with and without the factory overloads. Don't get me wrong, the airbags are great but if you're going to be using the dumpbed constantly, you won't have to worry about airing up the bags and keeping track of your pressures, etc.
I have a set of brand new add aleafs in the box if you our interested pm me. I also have the dump bed conversion on a chevy I have it it is used in a landscaping busineess mostly to dump grass clippings and works really well.
