The support cross rails for the bed of my 2003 F250 are pretty rusted and two of them are shot. The truck has 161k miles and is for farm use only now, so structural integrity and low cost are at the top of the list.
I am considering the following options:
1) Replace the 2 bad rails with tubular 304SS with the bed in-place. This is cheap and easy.
2) Buy replacement rails, pull the bed and replace all of them. (I found 2 sources) This is cheap but will take more time.
3) Buy a new bed (takeoff) and toss the old one. This is expensive and takes some time.
4) Convert the bed to a dump bed, or replace it with a used flat/dump bed. I have no idea what the cost is or how much effort is involved.
Has anyone installed a used dump bed or one of those stealth dump beds? i would like to hear your experiences.
Thanks.
