I understand where you guys are coming from that the dark tint looks better...but it's one of those times where the "Law is the Law" IMO
besides, the $249 ticket per window is plenty enough incentive for me. and that isn't a "Fix It Ticket"...you get charged for illegal tinting regardless, and then they apparently inspect your car if you take it to court. If it's still there, you can get another ticket
guess the moral of the story is do what is legal, and then wear sunglasses if you need more. I grew up in Texas and I know what y'all mean about the sun...but it really isn't that bad as people say
nope.
the law clearly states that the darker tint is illegal. the "X" insures that you don't just blow off the ticket and keep the tinting.
Man that's a steep fine. It's only $90 total in Baton Rouge and all you do is pay it. They don't require going to court or having it removed.
Well I have been pulled over for speeding and I had just put the tint on the windows. The cop told me that my tint was illegal but he wasnt going to do anything about it because he doesn't like paperwork. So I guess I got lucky with that one but I have driven by quite a few cops who have looked at me but just kept driving. If I get a ticket for it I'll just remove it because I do agree with the law is law rule.
i got pulled over for window tint that was too dark.... i dont remember what the rating was. i got a "fix it ticket"..... but the strangest thing was that the cop also said that it hadnt looked like i was wearing my seatbelt when he saw me drive my..... my reply was "i thought my tint was too dark to see in?"
sometimes i think they are bored and just looking to harass people.
I just bought 20% pre-cut for the front windows only off ebay for $15. I have sensitive eyes (true story!) so I will get my optometrist to write a note saying so, which will make me legal in Michigan.
Does this stuff come off very easily? I am somewhat worried about fading, or peeling, or bubbling, or discoloring...and then wanting to remove it. Anybody have experience with this?
if you have access to a heat gun and infrared thermo just heat it up to 90 degrees and peel off...other wise a standard hair dryer on high for about 5 minutes does the trick just fine...
in my experience working at a shop you start at the top left corner of the window and apply an even pulling pressure (equal to the weight of a grapefruit) and peel about 1/2 inch down all the way to the front (right) of the glass....get an alcohol mix (1 part alc to 4 parts water) and spray it down as you pull it off to make it easier and to break down the adhesive.
A straight blade makes the "uninstall" a breeze but only use it to pick up the corner. Its a lot more simple than the instructions read...promise
You probably already know to only use NON-AMMONIA glass cleaner...but just in case NO WINDEX!
ONE LAST THING...MAKE SURE YOU CLEAN THE WINDOW USING WINDOW CLEANER AND A STRAIGHT BLADE TO GET OFF ALL FILM FROM THE WINDOW TO MAKE SURE YOU GET A CLEAN SURFACE FOR THE TINT TO ADHERE TO. THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR BOTH REMOVAL AND PRE INSTALL!!
I went 20% in the front on mine with a sunstrip on the windshield and it matches great. I have been pulled over once or twice and my tint was never mentioned. That was in Tennessee and New York
