Isn't a d4 pushing the capabilities of the truck a little much?

I have the DrawTite and pull a 12K lb trailer just fine. I'd never subject my truck to whatever a D4+trailer would weigh.

If you plan on pulling that much weight a few things:
1. pyrometer - you can create serious egt's pulling over 20K
2. trans temp - roasted clucth discs get expensive
3. always check your brakes - your truck won't stop that load without help from the trailer
4. don't buy the cheap hitch, your life may depend on that hitch in the event of an accident.

So you want to yank around a D3 or D4 dozer but are going to skimp on a cheap hitch? Not a smart prospect IMO. I'd recommend the B&W gooseneck hitch. I installed one recently and it's perfect. 30K gross and 7500 TW, not sure you'd want more than that on your truck. Love how it mounted up, and how it turns over and keeps the bed flush. I got it less than $300 delivered and it is definately something you can install yourself. Just need to buy, borrow, or steal a 4" hole saw.

find a good welding shop and have them put it in, mine has 1" flat stock running across the frame rails welded to 1/2" angle bolted to the frame

Nick has your cheapest solution there. That is the way we always did it before we found B&W hitches.

BTW, IIRC a d4 isnt more than 18k. My backhoe weighs 18k and my pickup pulls that fine. Granted I dont break any speed records, but it will run down the interstate all day long 75 mph.

well i wasn't actually gonna get a cheap made hitch i wanted a good one but i was wondering where i could get one for a cheaper price. i dont wanna half a** it cause i wanna be able to pull the bend out of a creek and dont want my hitch to be the weak point on the truck if ya know what i mean.
