Yes you can do that but I prefer to get rid of the actuator as well. Removing it get rid of any oil leak potenial from the rod and it also makes it easy to to get to that one back bolt on the pedestal.

Cut the barrel off the pedestal and weld up the left over holes. Its alumnim so you will need to find a welder that can do that for you if you don't have welder needed. The pedestal will look like this when done

It lets it flow better by eliminating the restriction caused by the butterfly and shaft.

Can i just remove teh guts from the acuator and tap the hole for teh shaft and plug the hole? or is there too much pressure for teh cover on the other end? I dont have access to a welder that can do aluminum and the local welding guy will charge as much or more than what i can buy from that rons turbo on ebay

You will be fine plugging the holes. Many have done it that way.

Ok. Thats what I was looking for. Would rather cut it put since I have to pay to have it done and money is tight I'll risk causing it down the road if i ever have to pull the turbo

I just had to do this job. I pulled the turbo and removed the plug on the back of the actuator. I pulled the piston and cut the actuator shaft to 1/2 inch. I then tapped and plugged the actuator hole with a pipe plug.

I reinstalled the piston and the spring. I then ground the rivets out of the exhaust valve and pulled the plate and shaft. I tried to tap threads but I did not have a tap bigger than 1/2-13. I ended up using a 1/2 inch bolt inserted from the inside. I loc-tited a nut on the outside. The brass bushing sealed the bolt and nut perfectly. I would have liked to eliminated the actuator housing as suggested earlier, but for some reason decided not to... TJ Beggs even offered to do the work... I thought I would be able to use it as a brake, but the seal failed shortly thereafter. So I had to pull the turbo, again.
