modified pedistal write-up

ok guys heres the scoop, i couldnt find any write-up of how to do this, where to or how deep to cut into my pedistal to delete the ebpv actuator. as some of you know my brothers turbo went out, sooooo i figured i would remove the ebpv actuator which makes the remove/install a breeze. i found a couple of pics in tim's web shots, and it gave me an idea of what i was looking for..

first remove the turbo, i found this link helpful https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...tructions.html

heres before and after pics of the pedistal

and heres how i did it,
after i got the pedistal off the turbo, i removed the guts of the actuator

here i used a vertical bandsaw to take the actuator off. note 2 holes have to be plug welded as well as the main oil passage. i used an aluminum grinding wheel on a 4.5" grinder to make everything smoothe.

another view

I used a piece of 3/4" aluminum pipe and mitered it to cover up the big "hole". the reason was i was worried about oil flow. i wanted to keep it as unrestricted as possible, as well as leaving enough clearance for the 2 bolts in the back..

aluminum pipe i used

finished product!

i was a nervous wreck with the band saw. i was afraid i was gonna cut too deep so i just took little bites. hopefully this can help someone who is interested in doing this. i put a few bolts connecting the pedistal to the turbo and set it on the engine. i had no problems starting either bolt facing the firewall with my hand. if theres any questions fire away

Excuse my ignorance please. What does removing the actuator accomplish?

Great write up! Love it. How is your DP attached now though? Isn't it normally connected to the EBPV? How did you work that out?

Well you dont have to modify anything with the DP and EBPV, this mod only take out the actuator of the valve in the pedestal not in the EBPV. IMHO.

No more leaks in that part of the pedestal, and easy access to the rear bolts of the pedestal, and with this mod I would recommend gut the EBPV.

jose are you talking about the very first pic with the (rod about 9/16") sicking straight up?? if so the rod is where the solenoid sits. the best way i can explain, is picture an ipr with the solenoid sitting on it, remove the solenoid. same principle, it contacts through the metal. i hope this makes sense

jdap, the actuator controls the ebpv and is seperate

dirk, just like jose said, when you go to take your turbo off, youll see where clearance is everything concerning the last 2 pedistal bolts. with the actuator out of the way,,its a breeze
