I was installing an injector return line kit on an old 6.9 and was almost done, just tightening the last fuel line onto the injector and got it cross-threaded. Was wondering if I have to replace the injecor now or what. Can I replace just the one or better to do all of them. Also how exactly do you replace the injectors on these.
Did it ruin the threads on the injector or the cap or both.
I like to replace them as a set but you might be able to get by with one how many miles on them now.
I don't think this will qualify you as a moron but you mispelled it so I don't lol.
I didn't really look at the cap threads but the injector for sure are ruined. I just bought the pickup for 400 dollars and it has a ton of miles on it. I thought about looking up the spelling of moron first too... oh well I guess that makes me certifiable.
Well I hate to see you have to spring for a set of injectors you might get by with just one was it running good before yoy changed the return lines.
There are some online places online the prices are not too bad one several have had good luck with is pensacola diesel.
the bad part about it is if the ip has a lot of miles new injectors sometimes taxes the old ip so you might end up wanting an ip too but at least you will know what you have.
Would it be possible to remove the injector and clean up the threads with a small 3 cornerd file (maybe).
We have an old 6.9 that is totaled but everything is good except the radiator, if it isn't too big of a job maybe I could rob an injector off of this? I wasn't sure about using used injectors.
I've saved my but with the file deal but you'll have to pull the injector to do it (they aren't hard). Whether you can save it depends on how carried away you got with the crossthread. The main things are to, A) keep filings out of the injector nu stuffing something down the hole to keep them outand B) be deliberate and patient.
BTW, you're better off being a "Moran" than a "Moron." Moron is a permanent state. Moran is only temporary ( : < ).

You could try that. The injectors should just unscrew and screw the other one in.
You could try a thread file on the damaged one or maybe even a die.
I did the same on a new injector. Didn't even realize it till i started it. Ran a die over it and fixed it right up. No leaks or nothing now. It threads on good and tightens.
