My sons 2001 V10 4X4 4r100 died. Turns out it had a mechanical diode that bit the dust. The trans was rebuilt with E4od replacement parts for the diode, a rebuild kit and a new center support, new pump, and a rebuilt converter.
With installation complete we had reverse, and 1'st, would not shift. We figured that maybe some junk had gotten into the solenoid pack so we replaced that. No reverse but shifted through the gears fine the first time, never got to fast enough to hit 4th. Through a P0782 2-3 shift error, reverse stated working. Cleared the codes no reverse. Checked pressures with a gauge all pressures are good even reverse but it doesn't work. When you put it in reverse it loses engine RPM (just a little) but it will not back up. After screwing around with this pig for a few hours and consulting the book the only thing we could think of was maybe the pump that was installed was a non pwm pump so we ripped it back out and the trans buddy tore it all back down. Everything is just like it was when it went together, no bad gaskets, pump is the same casting all orifices are the same.
Any thoughts? Maybe incorrect shift solenoid although the trans shop only list's the one we have.
I can just guess without looking at the parts, and I guess that there is something wrong with the reverse clutch seals. They may not have been installed right and are leaking. When a code is stored the failure mode is to raise the line pressure, which can make bad seals work, giving you reverse. Clearing the codes will lower the pressure again, so no reverse.
Yes, that's what I was told. All the gas engine trucks were supposed to have the mechanical diode trans replaced before it left the factory. None were sold.
