Trans expert needed
First off basically the 4r100 V10 with a mechanical diode (in pieces). My son and I pulled the trans and was rebuilt by someone that was recommended to us. He works out of his garage, makes a living doing transmission work. $750.00 later with a rebuilt converter it was back in the truck, but it wouldn't function, shift properly, no reverse, no 2-3 shift, or not like it should and that anoying light flashing on the shifter. After playing with it checking line pressures ect, mind with the help of the transmission repairman buy my side we pulled the trans out again. Only took two hours the second time around, amazing what you learn the first time. Trans was tore down and nothing was amiss. Well turns out the trans rebuilder's buddy has a trans dyno so off to the dyno it goes. Well it worked just like it should so back in the truck it goes, and guess what, it works like a champ>>>for 30-or 40 miles and then, same old stuff, no reverse, won't shift into 3rd, holy crap. So back in the garage BUT this time we pretty much know the trans guts are good OK so what do we do. When I had the trans out the second time I had the shift solenoid harness hooked up to my Auto Enginuity and shifted the solenoids manually so the PCM is working and the harness should be OK. Well this morning while I was drinking my coffee I had a thought so when my son showed up I had my Trustworthy son climb under the truck while it was running in reverse and shake the wires on the solenoid pack around and guess what all of a sudden the truck goes in reverse(did I mention it's his truck and he hasn't drove it in three months, I also had my foot planted on the brakes, come on it wasn't unsafe)beside the garage door was closed and I surly wouldn't ruin that, cost too much to fix. I back it out of the garage and around the block and it works like brand new. I called the trans dude up and he was you got to be kidding me. So now the people who have read this are going WTF are you babbling about this is crap.
When you work on your trucks don't leave any stone unturned, don't point to the obvious (pulling trans out after it didn't work) play, putz, do stupid stuff, I even got words of wisdom from the FTE and guess what!! At least I know whats wrong.
Sorry for the babbling but as much as we work on our trucks don't do what you think is the problem until your pretty darn sure you know what the problem is.
Monday we get a new solenoid wire patch harness and we should be good to go.
I had a similiar issue with my fuel pump. Thinking all the time it was a bad pump and it turned out it was a wire grounding out and not getting juice to the pump.
