in the instructions it says keep 12" away from cellphones. I keep my phone in the cubby hole. I wanted to mount it below the cubby as the previous owner drilled holes mounting something in that spot. Will a phone really mess with a brake controller?
I'd make sure it's mounted where you can get to the manual slide lever easily without a lot of reaching or taking your eyes off the road; if your trailer gets squirrelly at night you want to be able to get it back straight real quick. If you have to have the cell on while you're towing, then do 12" which seems like a reasonable distance; Tekonsha must have a reason for the warning.
my cell phone is all over my controller and have never had an issue and never have heard of an issue with a cell and a controller. thats a new one on me guys
The newer controllers have solid-state devices that the old pendulum-style controllers never had; that might be the reason. If cell phone location is more important than controller location. so be it. Or, just turn it off; not a bad idea while towing anyway.
